After more than 20 years as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I've had the privilege of helping hundreds of people navigate relationships. One thing has become increasingly clear to me: many people aren't frustrated because they can't find someone attractive. They're frustrated because they can't easily find someone with the same intentions.
One person is hoping to build a life with someone. The other is simply looking for companionship. Neither person is wrong. But when those intentions don't match, disappointment often follows.
Modern dating has become efficient… but not necessarily better
Technology has made meeting people easier than ever. You can browse hundreds of profiles in minutes. You can match instantly. You can start conversations within seconds.
Yet despite all of this convenience, many people tell me they feel more discouraged than ever. Why? Because most dating platforms are built to answer one question first:
"Do I find this person attractive?"
Instead of asking:
"Are we looking for the same kind of relationship?"
Those are very different questions.
Attraction matters
Let's be honest. Physical attraction is important. It should be. Healthy relationships include attraction.
But attraction alone doesn't tell us whether someone is emotionally available, ready for commitment, or looking for the same future we are. Those conversations usually happen much later — after we've already invested time and emotion.
What if we reversed that process?
What if dating began with intention?
Imagine joining a dating community where every member first paused to reflect on questions like:
- Am I ready for a healthy relationship?
- What kind of partner do I want to become?
- What values matter most to me?
- What am I truly looking for?
Those questions don't guarantee compatibility. But they create a very different starting point — one built on honesty instead of assumptions.
Why I built Vetted
I didn't build Vetted because the world needed another dating app. I built it because I became convinced that people deserve a better starting point.
As a therapist, I've watched too many wonderful people lose hope — not because they weren't worthy of love, but because they kept entering conversations with people who wanted something completely different.
I wanted to create a community where intentionality comes first. Where people begin with self-awareness. Where trust matters. Where introductions are thoughtful instead of random.
That's why every member begins by completing a Relationship Readiness Assessment before becoming discoverable. Not because anyone has to be perfect. But because healthy relationships often begin with honest reflection.
Is Vetted right for everyone?
Honestly? Nope. If you're simply browsing or aren't sure what you're looking for yet, Vetted may not be the right fit.
But if you're hoping to build a meaningful relationship with someone who's also approaching dating intentionally, I think you'll appreciate what we're creating.
